US Grade 3 - 5
*I do not cancel for low enrollment. I love teaching a single learner as well as a group of students.* Learners will explore what life was like for the passengers and crew of the Mayflower as they journeyed almost 10 weeks across the Atlantic, ending on November 9, 1620, when the ship's crew first sights land off Cape Cod, near the Wampanoag village of Pamet. Through a slide presentation, we will examine who was aboard this ship and see the planned route verses the actual route of the Mayflower. We will discuss what living accommodations aboard ship were like, the food the passengers and crew ate, and the hardships they experienced while at sea. All students will be encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas throughout the lesson. Using a worksheet I provide as a guide, learners will record important details about the journey and create a headline for an imaginary news story about the trip. There is no special experience or knowledge required for this class. *Please note: this class deals exclusively with the voyage of the Mayflower and does not cover colonization after the ship lands.*
Learning Goals
Students will practice making inferences, comparing and contrasting, and drawing conclusions as we evaluate historical information relating to the voyage of the Mayflower.
