Master Mark Tan is a 4th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do with 20 years of experience teaching students ages 5-70. *1999 Open Karate tournament champion (lightweight) *1999 Open Karate tournament champion (heavyweight) *2011-2019 Sparring Team assistant coach *2014 Illinois State gold medalist *2021 Sparring Team coach
Students are encouraged to practice the techniques and forms on their own for improved retention and growth. Additionally, each belt will need to complete the "Home Rule" aspect. This will be explained in class as each belt has a different home rule. Also parents will receive a description via email.
I will email a curriculum guide on the first day of class. The guide will outline everything each student needs to know for their belt level. Additionally, a white v-neck Tae Kwon Do uniform (with a white collar) and a purple belt are also required. Students may use a uniform or belt that they already own.
Students will be evaluated for readiness throughout the 8 weeks and the last day of class will be the formal live test. Passing the test advances the student to the next belt.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
An area large enough for the student to perform stretches/kicking and moving around without any tripping hazards or breakable objects nearby will be needed.
