Description
Class Experience
Sewing is not only a great life skill, but it teaches math through measuring and estimation, following directions, and fine motor skills. This course will provide a tutorial about the use of a sewing machine and common sewing tools.
I have taken several quilting classes over the last ten years and made about twenty quilts, including three T-shirt quilts.
To make a twin-sized quilt, you will need 24 adult-sized T-shirts, one yard of fleece, thread to match the fleece, pins, scissors, and a sewing machine. If you would like a full size quilt, use 30 adult sized T-shirts. If you are using youth sized T-shirts, estimate how many would equal an adult shirt. You will need a large piece of cardboard to make a template. Suggested template sizes are 12 X 12 or 10 X 10. Suggested materials: iron, rotary cutter, rotary cutter mat.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parents or guardians should monitor the use of sharp objects during this course, such as scissors, rotary cutters, needles and pins. If an iron is used, parents should monitor the usage.
