30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one time class, learners will review and practice identifying and finding synonyms (words with the same meaning) and antonyms (words with an opposite meaning.) The meaning of both concepts will be defined before students engage in guided practice with the teacher. This group has been kept intentionally small so that the student or students can effectively participate in the independent practice which is the game Connect 4. Depending on the number enrolled, students will either work alone or with a partner to play the game. A word will be drawn such as "bad." Before the learner can make a move on the electronic Connect 4 board, they must think of a synonym or antonym for the word that is drawn. If your learner already understands synonyms and antonyms, this will be a great way to practice a known skill! Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome! I retired in May, 2020 after thirty years in education, and I am so excited to continue teaching on Outschool! I have experience teaching students in first grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade. I also taught Reading Recovery and served as a reading interventionist, an assistant principal and a testing coordinator. During my years in fourth and fifth grade, I specialized in reading and writing. Reading is my passion, and I am so excited to share that passion with your child. My lessons will focus on reading comprehension strategies and grammar.
I have a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Texas Woman’s University in Elementary Education with a minor in English. I also hold a Master’s Degree from the University of North Texas in Educational Administration. I am ESL certified and have taught online ESL classes for two years. My husband and I live on a ranch in East Texas, so I spend much of my free time helping him with the never ending duties ranch life requires. We also enjoy spending time with our four beautiful grandchildren.
I believe that when students are engaged, they will be productive learners. I can’t wait to provide an engaging and fun learning experience for your child!
