What's included
1 live meeting
50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Students will learn three origami folds by following the teacher's instruction via live video. The class will then arrange multiple folds on a two-dimensional surface, utilizing radial balance. This includes some use of division and symmetry. We will make the following beginner folds: Hat, Kite, and Samurai. No prior origami experience is needed. I recommend this class for beginners. Students are welcome to add origami designs from their own prior knowledge, or create their own original designs.
Learning Goals
Students will learn three basic origami folds. They are encouraged to develop their own folds once the basics are mastered. They will be able to arrange the origami pieces in a composition using symmetry.
Other Details
Supply List
Students will need a minimum of 16 pieces of 3x3 inch paper, to start. I recommend construction paper, but any paper is fine. We will not use traditional origami paper because the squares are too large. However, you may cut your origami paper into 3 inch squares. A glue stick or white liquid glue A large, 12x12 inch sheet of paper, preferably construction paper or heavier
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hands on learning increases problem solving and motor skills. I have taught this project to students as young as age 7, and they love it. Once they learn simple, origami folds, I encourage them to try the more difficult designs. This project is great for students with attention deficits, because it requires focusing on step by step procedures.
