Welcome to Sounds and Syllables: Level 2. In this course learners will hone their reading skills through direct instruction and practice decoding and reading multisyllabic words with vowel teams, r-controlled, and consonant -le syllable types. Each lesson in this class follows the I do, We do, You do method of instruction to scaffold student learning so that they are able to begin independently decoding multisyllabic words with vowel teams, r-controlled, and consonant -le syllable types. Lessons will follow the same general format from week to week but the content will be adjusted depending on the types of syllables we are working with each week. Instruction is interactive and the lessons are designed to meet learners with a variety of learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic). ****Lesson Format*** 1. Warm-up: Our daily warm up will consist of a review of phonologic and phonemic awareness skills to get learners thinking about letter and syllable sounds. 2. Direct Instruction: Each week learners will work through decoding a set of target multisyllabic words. Students will get explicit instruction in how to break apart the target words into syllables. We will discuss the word meanings and use the words in context in sentences as we go. 3. Practice: Learners will be given target words to break apart into syllables on their own to decode them. 4. Extend: Learners will write sentences using target words from the lesson. ***Class Schedule*** ***November*** Week of November 10th: Introduction/Review: What makes a syllable? Hello Outschool parents and learners! I am so grateful to have the opportunity to teach and connect with you all here on Outschool.
I have been teaching for 14 years. My teaching experience is wide ranging. While working on my degree, I substitute taught at the elementary level. After completing my Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Social Studies Education I began teaching World History to 10th grade students in a large public school in South Florida. I taught World History for three years and absolutely loved every minute of it! At the end of my third year of teaching my husband's job transferred him to Virginia where I found a job as a lead teacher in a preschool over the summer. I thought teaching preschool was just going to be a summer job, but it turned out that I fell in love with the littles in my classroom and kept my preschool teaching job for three years!
After having my daughter I made the switch to teaching exclusively online.
I love the flexibility of teaching with Outschool as well as being able to connect with learners from around the world!
Teaching is my passion, no matter the platform being used to reach students. There is nothing quite like seeing learning "click" for a student and watching them begin to excel on their own. My favorite topics to teach are history as well as early literacy, reading, and writing. I'm an avid reader myself and it brings me great joy to see my students get as excited about reading as I am.
I'm looking forward to meeting and learning with you! I hope to see you in the classroom soon!
