Class Experience

Beginner Level
This is a class that will spark your student's interest in electricity. Students will learn how electricity works to light our homes and power our world.

This is a Self Paced class that will have video demonstrations of the topics covered. Notes will be taken using a provided handout and will need to be completed as homework using a "Notes" video. There will be weekly homework to complete and submit showing the understanding of the week's concepts.

Interaction between teacher and student will include discussion boards where activities, questions and feedback will make this class come alive for the learner. In the same ways students will be given the option to interact giving peer feedback and answering peer's questions. Students will also have the opportunity to play online games where their accomplishments will be able to be posted and discussed.

There will also be videos to watch during the week to reinforce the concept.

Topics covered
1. Introduction to Electricity - Where does it come from?
2. Simple Circuit
3. Conductors & Insulators
4. Series & Parallel Circuits
5. Magnets & Electromagnets
6. Review & Quiz

During this course students will engage in learning through the use of demonstrations, videos, guided note taking, vocabulary games, hands-on activities, classroom discussions and critical thinking responses.

This course can be graded upon request.
Learning Goals
Students will understand the ways electricity is generated. Additionally, students will be able to build a simple circuit, a series circuit and a parallel circuit, distinguish between conductors and insulators, and understand how electromagnets work.

I am a Pennsylvania certified teacher and love teaching hands-on topics. It is my personal belief that it is not the job of a teacher to impart knowledge, but instilling a desire for lifelong learning shall be the goal. If a student finishes my class actually wanting to know more then I have done my job of instilling a desire for knowledge.
