Through the "Tools of Poetry" course, students will acquire a set of valuable traits. They will gain proficiency in identifying and utilizing key poetic devices like simile, metaphor, rhythm, repetition, imagery, and alliteration. Their ability to critically analyze and appreciate poetry will be significantly enhanced, alongside developing skills in crafting their own poetic compositions. This course will also improve their communication and interpretative skills, particularly in discussing and sharing insights about poetry. Students will build confidence in engaging with peers and the instructor through interactive discussions and feedback, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the structure and beauty of poetry, which will serve them well beyond the course.

I've taught Units on Poetry to both American and Chinese students of all ages from elementary to college level. I am a writer myself with 12 published works so the written word is not only something I teach, but train myself on as well for practical application in the real world.
