Welcome to Quilling (Paper Art) Summer Camp!
🧁🍦🍉

Hello Families!! If you're looking for an arts and crafts camp for your learner, look no further!!

Your learner will be challenged and have fun socializing and enjoying a variety of quilling projects. There is no prior quilling experience needed for any of the projects. In each class, I will cover the basic quilling shapes that students need to know for the project of the day. I make the project along with the students, and answer their questions as we go along. I use an InSwan document camera in all of my quilling classes, so the students will be able to see both my face talking and my hands moving at all times, which is extremely helpful for learning this craft! Students love sharing their finished art piece at the end of each meeting, as I spotlight the students on Zoom!

What is Quilling❓

The art of quilling, which dates back to the 1500s, is using thin strips of colorful paper and turning them around an object to make coils. You may have recognized the root word “quill”, which is a feather, formerly used as a pen when dipped into ink. The original art form used quills to turn the paper around to form the coils. Instead of quills, these days people use quilling needle tools, pencils, or toothpicks. People that practice the artform of quilling are often called quillers.

Why try Quilling❓

People choose to learn quilling for multiple reasons. First off, the historical artform is beautiful. The supplies are basic and not costly. Even the kits, when purchased, are not expensive. Quilling promotes hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills in children. It boosts creativity in people of all ages, and promotes gift giving, as the projects make lovely cards and gifts. Lastly, almost everyone reports that it makes them feel relaxed and calms them, so it’s very beneficial for those suffering with anxiety.

For each class, students will need the following:
-paper of various colors (construction paper, copier paper, or quilling paper) If your learner doesn't have quilling paper, please go ahead and cut the paper strips to 5mm before class begins. The colors needed will depend on the project. If you're unsure of the project, please see the class details or message the teacher.
-white liquid glue
-scissors
-pencil or a quilling tool

*If your learner has quilling tools, that is great, but it's not required.
If you do decide to order your learner a quilling tool set, I would like to suggest this one that I purchased from Amazon for around $19. https://a.co/d/2eF6jXG

**Parents should keep a close watch on their child during this class, since craft supplies are involved. Some quilling tools and scissors are very sharp. Please closely monitor and help your child as needed.

Hello from the U.S.A.! Specializing in Quilling and Science classes, I offer a variety of one-time, multi-day, and ongoing classes. Graduating college with a degree in Early Childhood Education has allowed me to teach children, ages 4-12. My master's is in Counseling. I believe that the combination of my bachelor's and master's work, as well as my soft skills make me a patient, kind, and loving teacher.

The emotional well-being of students always comes first. I strive to give my learners an atmosphere where learning feels comfortable and never stressful. My experience as a mother of three has taught me much about how children learn best. I strive to provide exactly that perfect learning atmosphere in my online classes.

My strength areas are:

-Cross-Cultural Communication:
Having lived and traveled extensively abroad, I enjoy meeting and teaching students all over the world!

-S.T.E.A.M.:
I'm very passionate about S.T.E.A.M. education, especially Science and Art! These subjects are incorporated often into my classes.

-Scaffolding:
I constantly evaluate the progress of my students and adjust my teaching to meet their needs.

-Student Encouragement:
Celebrating wins with students is my delight! I want them to know that I am happy to help them learn and I want them to succeed!

My hobbies include kayaking, swimming, and quilling paper art. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family at Lake Hartwell, Georgia, U.S.A., where I live with my husband, three children, and our bordoodle Princess. I hope to teach your learner soon!
