40 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
Each week students will work together creating survival camps, hunting, mining, crafting, protecting, and using effective communication skills, with the end goal of surviving the summer on Disaster Island! *Currently, students are stranded on an island and will need to explore caves and all around the area arming and preparing themselves to fight the Ender Dragon and escape the island! Depending on the class size, students may be assigned into a class breakout room and will get to play and chat with other students while collaborating in small groups to complete the goal! I will come in and out of each room to make sure students are all engaged and on topic. There will be 25 - 30 minutes to create, design, and customize your island disaster solutions. At the end of the class, we will return back to the main room with time to share the designs and solutions with the rest of the class. This is a sample of how the class may progress; Students will locate a deserted island as a team or create an awesome island paradise together (I have included a simplistic island camp photo). They will then be presented with disaster #1 - The island paradise is looking great by day, but there are creeper visitors at night - find a way to protect yourselves from the night visitors. Awesome job! Now food is getting scarce ...time to secure a food source...but then you may need somewhere to store the food you were able to gather last week, but you have no electricity! As you can see it seems to be one thing after the other going wrong on disaster island. Students will be working in the teacher's world if they chose to. We will continue to build upon our island week after week as new disasters are presented. The classes are not dependent on each other as a new disaster will be presented each week. The goal is not to destroy the original build but to expand it. We welcome new builders and their ideas each week! Students will need Bedrock edition and be signed in to their Microsoft accounts, or Xbox live account, in order to join a world. If you choose to work with other students in their worlds or realms parental approval is recommended. Students must also be signed into their Microsoft accounts, or Xbox live accounts, in order to join a world. Not all game systems will connect with other words. That is ok and students are still able to work on solo projects and still join in on the Zoom discussion. NOTE - We will be building in the creative mode and you will need to have a way to play Minecraft as well as use the Zoom program. (Bedrock Edition only; not compatible with Java Edition) *Please Do Not Break anything you didn't build. Each class will be different and independent so you are able to join one class or come as often as you like!
Learning Goals
Students will be challenged to think outside the box and use what they have available to fix or prevent disasters as they are presented.
