This is an ongoing, supervised server where students can work together to build, survive, defeat bosses, and set up a thriving world of interconnected bases, community areas, and more. Before the first class, I will be in contact with the student/parent to help them get connected to the Realm we'll be using. A few very important notes: 1.) not all version of Minecraft are compatible with each other, so in order to join this class, you must make sure you are running the Java edition. Bedrock, Education, or any version played on a tablet or phone will NOT be able to connect to the Realm. 2.) Minecraft is best played with a mouse and keyboard together, but if using a trackpad, make sure there is a right/left click function, as both are needed in this game. If a student is new to Minecraft, never fear! I have lots of experience in helping students learn the basics. How the server will be set up will be largely up to the students, as they will plan and build cooperatively! There will be a place set out for a central community area, but beyond that, the students' imaginations and creativity will lead the way. RULES: In order for the server to run smoothly, there are a few rules that will be gone over in the first class, but I ask parents to also go over them with their children before we begin. I will be supervising the class to make sure all of these rules are followed, but it is important for students to understand the kind of community and play area that we are building. 1.) No bullying! This includes racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other form of discrimination, as well as mean comments about someone else's building or ideas. Helpful comments or suggestions might be appreciated by classmates, but should never disparage or discourage. 2.) No griefing. This term refers to players who enjoying annoying other players by various means, including stealing their items, destroying their builds, or damaging/killing another player in game. This is a form of bullying and won't be tolerated. 3.) No PvP unless both players have agreed to it. Students might decide to build a PvP arena to compete in, but otherwise this is a friendly, collaborative server. 4.) Students who have played lots of Minecraft and know the game well should be patient and kind to those who haven't played before. Please note, this class is NOT: a coding or modding course, a redstone course, a troubleshooting course for technical problems, or a course about how to set up your own server. It is expected that students will have their own copy of Minecraft Java (PC&Mac), and that it is already installed on their computer.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Minecraft includes cartoon monsters, including zombies, skeletons, and others, that students will need to fight and kill in game.
Supply List
Minecraft can be purchased here: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/ The game should be purchased, downloaded, installed, and set up before the beginning of class. If help is required for any of these steps, contact me directly and we can discuss, but class time is meant for playing the game. Students should also have a mouse, as the game is difficult to play with only a trackpad.
