40 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
This is a fun interactive class where students will learn to ask questions, collect data from their peers, and record their data using a bar graph. Questions will be in "yes" or "no" format, so we will be creating a 2-bar graph. Students will be given the opportunity to create both vertical and horizontal bar graphs. This is an interactive class where students will take turns asking and answering questions. I will teach this class in a "model, guide, and do" format. During the "modeling" time, I will provide an example of how to do the activity together with the students. During the "guiding" time, I will provide the students guidance while they follow the steps I demonstrated. During the "doing" time, students will be encouraged to demonstrate what they learned by creating a graph at home on their own. The teacher will model: We will work through the process of generating a question. The students will work together brainstorm a list of yes or no questions. We will choose one question as a group and practice asking the question to our peers. We will record the answer in a chart, and then we will create a bar graph. The teacher will walk the students through the process step by step with visual examples. She will encourage students to discuss what the data shows and practice using vocabulary words like, "greater than, less than, equal to." The teacher will guide: After students have worked through one example with the teacher, the teacher will lead each student through the process again. This will provide students with the opportunity to practice each step the learned. The students will be given the opportunity to generate their own question. They will be given time to ask the question to each peer to collect their own data. The teacher will provide guidance as need to help students transfer their data to a bar graph. The student will do: The teacher will provide students with materials need to continue practicing and creating the bar graph from data on their own at home. Take a picture of your bar graph and share it in the classroom! I'd love to see them! Learners should be able to count.
