Joss, the American Girl of the Year (2020), and I have one thing in common: We both have hearing loss and we're pretty amazing at conquering all challenges with our 100% positive attitude. This hasn't stopped us from living our best life and are excited to continue achieving great things. Let's meet up with with Joss at the beach and catch some waves while we chat all things hearing loss. What's it like? What are hearing aids? How do we hear with hearing aids? among other questions.No hearing loss background required and this class will help girls learn about people with hearing loss and how they can be an ally for the hearing loss community in their schools or with their friends. I'll go in detail about the hearing loss and its history (I'll have a powerpoint created by me to support my findings and visually support what I am talking about), my own personal history with hearing loss (I have worn hearing aids since I was 6 years old) and then we'll design our own hearing aid on paper and a 3D model for our doll/s. To top it off, we'll do a fun trivia game on Kahoot and see who can ride the highest wave! I welcome any and every question about hearing loss, Joss too!

Learners will learn more about Joss, the American Girl of 2020 and her and my hearing loss.

Supply List
Learners will need to print out the worksheet before class and bring their preferred coloring tools (colored pencils, markers or crayons). To make the 3D hearing model for our doll/s: Modeling clay (any color of your choice), silver wire and hot glue (glue gun works best)
