Class Experience

Children with Tourettes often experience isolation, bullying, and feel different. A support group helps a child feel less alone, can reduce distress and and anxiety, improve coping skills, and offer socialization. Children can benefit from being in a group with others that share similar difficulties and experiences. The realization to the child that he/she is not alone in dealing with Tourettes can bring a sense of relief. A support group becomes a safe place to interact with others and practice social skills. I will not diagnose or treat the disorder. I will be a leader to make sure all can participate. Discussion will be the focus of the group but activities will be included when appropriate addressing coping skills, self-esteem, and relaxation techniques. No prior experience or knowledge is required. I have a masters in education/school counseling and over 30 years experience. I have led many support groups with youth of all ages. My daughter was diagnosed at the age of six and my grandson at age seven with this disorder which helps me understand the struggles. I will lead this group with empathy, support, and encouragement.#superstar

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a masters degree in education/school counseling. I have been in education for over 30 years working at all levels. I started in middle school which I loved but then was asked to go to various elementary schools. I was a little skeptical but then found I loved that level also. Finally I was asked to start some programs at the high schools. Would I be able to enjoy and have great rapport with them? Yes, loved that level too, I just love working with kids of all ages! I want students to be successful learners. Research has established that social and emotional (SEL) skills play an important role in having success in school and in life. It has even been shown that students with good SEL skills score better on tests. It is my passion and mission to help students become healthy learners and that will be the goal of the classes I teach.
I like to be outside gardening, hiking, and playing with my grandkids. I look forward to many happy and rewarding experiences with my future students.
