Class Experience

This is an introductory class to my ongoing class offering. In this lesson learners will learn a simple study strategy for learning sight words. After learning about me as a teacher you will want to enroll in my Super Spelling Strategies Ongoing Class where we will work with spelling sight words, word families and multisyllable words. We will practice phonemic awareness and phonics activities to build understanding of how letters fit together. I offer a small group, relaxed and interactive class where students are engaged in the learning process.

Learners should have knowledge of their letter sounds and should be able to write their letters without assistance.

Prior to class students will receive a file to print and have available for them to use during class. Students will also need a wipe board, dry erase marker and pencil and paper for print outs.

Learning Goals

Common Core Standards :
* Use conventional spelling for words with common spelling patterns and for frequently occurring irregular words.
* Spell untaught words phonetically, drawing on phonemic awareness and spelling conventions.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
My passion is to connect with learners from around the world and support their intrinsic need to pursue their own natural curiosities. I provide learners with tools that inspire them to bring their best to our online classroom so we can collaborate and learn from one another.

I enjoy teaching students the Common Core Standards through in-depth studies of themes that cross the curriculum spectrum. We delve into Science and Social Studies topics while growing our reading and writing skills. Projects are often a large component of our class. They provide and opportunity to incorporate the arts and to practice presentation skills.

Professionally, I have 24 years experience teaching in New York, Florida and international schools in Europe. I hold a Master of Science in Elementary Education with a current Florida State Pre-k thru grade 6 Professional Educator Certificate. I also hold a Professional Endorsement in English for Speakers of Other Languages.

I take children from where they are, on their own learning path, with what they bring to our classroom, and together we move forward from there. I believe that all children have their unique gifts and talents and I do my part to help inspire them.

Some things that are fun to know about me are...
I love to take long walks on the beach and collect sharks teeth, enjoy riding my electric bicycle, speak German AND make THE BEST fried green tomatoes!
