Class Experience

Calling all Superheroes! During this workout class combined with a bit of art, your child will defend the world with their web slingers, Bane blasts, venom squats, and super planks. Learners will perform various balance, agility, and strength exercises. No prior experience needed. No equipment needed. We will also be making our own superhero shield and mask with supplies you most likely already have at home. Come dressed in comfortable clothes or as your favorite Superhero! My spidey-sense is tingling! Let’s get active, socialize, make art, and save the city together! Don’t forget to bring all your energy, superpowers, supplies, and a water bottle too!

Pretending to be superheroes in this upbeat fitness workout keeps it fun and entertaining! Children will learn how to do Parker jumps, spidey-kicks, and wall crawlers just to name a few! Class will begin with an introduction and talking about our favorite superheroes. I can’t wait to hear all the things you know! We will start by making our paper plate superhero shield. (Some littles may need assistance making the handle out of tape.) I hope we don't get interrupted by a crew of super villains! Next, I will model and perform a variety of stretches and exercises as we scale tall buildings and fight off villains. After we have saved the city we will make our very own superhero mask (printable attached to welcome message upon enrollment) and finish with a HULK SMASH!

Learners will have the opportunity to help me count out our exercise repetitions and share all their superhero knowledge. You can expect your child to receive lots of encouragement and praise throughout our workout and craft making time. They will leave feeling excited about fitness, with their new superhero gear and new exercises they can practice at home! Active fun for the whole family!

Approximately 10 minutes will be spent on each part of class (shield craft, workout, mask craft). It will all be tied together in an adventure your superhero is sure to not soon forget! If you are looking for a full 30 minute movement class, please see my other superhero workouts (no craft/no supplies)! I can't wait to meet you or see you again!

Learning Goals

Students will learn REAL stretches and exercises disguised as Superhero movements. Practicing and perfecting these exercises over time will improve your child’s flexibility, balance, agility, and increase strength! They will also be practicing their fine motor skills through using scissors, tape, and coloring. Let's not forget about exercising our imagination as well!

They will also be working towards achieving the daily physical activity recommendations of both the CDC and American Heart Association. According to the CDC, it is recommended that "children (3-5 years) should be physically active throughout the day for growth and development. Children and adolescents ages (6-17 years) should do 60 minutes or more of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity each day, including daily aerobic – and activities that strengthen bones (like running or jumping) – 3 days each week, and that build muscles (like climbing or doing push-ups) – 3 days each week."

According to the American Heart Association:

Active kids are more likely to have:

-a healthy weight
-stronger, healthier bones and muscles
-better heart and brain health
-improved brain function, including memory, attention and problem-solving
-better school attendance and academic performance, especially in math, reading and writing
-lower long-term risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and some kinds of cancer
-less stress and fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression
-less inappropriate and distracting classroom behavior
-improved mental health and psychological well-being, including confidence and self-esteem
