Class experience
US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
In Superhero Academy, we will sing songs, move our bodies, and use our imaginations to practice becoming superheroes and build superhero vocabulary. Next, we will imagine ourselves as superheroes by creating super names, super costumes, and super powers that will help us save the day. We'll use our super friends as resources for our creations. Then, we'll remember some real-life super powers that we have and can use every day. At the end of class, we'll read Super George, in which Curious...
Students will learn to use their bodies and minds to create a character. Students will practice social skills by talking and listening to peers with similar interests. Students will exercise early literacy skills by interactively reading together. Students will connect their imaginations to reality and learn to make a better world with their own "super powers."
I taught theatre, English, and offered literacy coaching and support for five years in both Colorado and New York City. In that time, I also taught a social/emotional curriculum to a group of girls once per week. I have BFAs in both theatre and English, as well as an MFA in acting and an MA in education with an emphasis in culturally diverse learners.

I will intentionally steer conversations away from the violent abilities of superheroes to focus on the powers they can use to do good in the world. Please note that we will do some dancing and pretend play, so enough room for learners to move their bodies is advised, but we can always make it work if this isn't an option for your learner!
