Class Experience
Welcome to Super Science Summer Camp! Put on your lab coats and goggles (totally optional, but it makes it fun!) and get ready for some excitement! This science class emerges the learners into the world of science with fun, hands-on experiments that keeps them engaged and questioning the world around them. These experiments are perfect for young learners and allow them to explore some beginning science concepts. Each day, Miss Heather will present students with a fun experiment, often...
Day 1: Skittles Rainbow -one pack Skittles -warm water -white bowl or plate Day 2: Lemon Volcano-2 lemons -food coloring -baking soda -Plate -cup -craft stick, plastic knife, or butter knife Day 3: Walking Water Experiment -Small, clear plastic cups or glasses -Paper towels -Food coloring in primary colors -Water * The select-a-size paper towels are best because then you just use half sheets for each cup. If you only have full sheets, then cut them in half. Day 4: Elephant Toothpaste -A clean 16-oz plastic soda bottle -1/2 cup 20-volume hydrogen peroxide liquid (20-volume is a 6% solution; you can get this from a beauty supply store or hair salon) -1 Tablespoon (one packet) of dry yeast -3 Tablespoons of warm water -Liquid dishwashing soap (like Dawn) -Food coloring -Small cup -large pan (this experiment will overflow and needs to have a large pan or something to catch the toothpaste) -gloves -Safety goggles -adult supervision and assistance will be needed when it's like for the actual experiment Day 5: Balloon Rocket Stem Activity -Latex Party Balloon -Yarn (about 6 feet long) -Drinking Straw -Tape -Scissors -2 chairs
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students are encouraged to do the experiments themselves, but having a parent nearby is highly recommended since some experiments might get a bit messy.
