Class Experience

Do you sometimes read something and have no idea what it's saying? Do you desire to become a stronger reader?

Are you ready to up-level your reading comprehension skills?

If you’re a parent, do you want these things for your learner?

In this class, we will definitely do all of this! We will celebrate our love of reading and work on our reading skills simultaneously. This class will be operated in a way that starts in the beginning, yet builds on several areas so that multiple levels of readers can work together to improve their individual reading abilities- And YES, we will have FUN!

My aim is to identify and close the reading gaps in my students’ abilities. My private tutoring students generally improve one grade level in their reading level with just 10-12 hours of instruction, so I’m excited about this group format!

This course focuses on the five components of reading that is differentiated for this age group. It is for readers who find reading to be more difficult than fun. This class is similar to my other Reading Boot Camp classes but will focus on comprehension primarily, so that we can dive deeper into understanding a text.

The primary skills include learning tools to apply to any text, beyond what we read in class.

***Students can take this class multiple times because it is different each time. I differentiate learning so that each student gets what he or she needs. This class can be combined with my other reading classes because the texts will be different most of the time. Re-reading is powerful though if the texts ever repeat from class to class (though I avoid this, since I have so many classes, it is possible for me to re-use a text here and there).

In this class, we will be learning literacy skills and will aim to provide a framework so that every student will end the course with a brighter spark for reading.

Learning Goals

Class Approach: Most classes will follow a sequence such as the following:
 1. Warm-Up and review the previous skill
2. Challenge Activity (Examining and reading a passage appropriate for the grade level of the students).
3. Activity time: This would be when we reflect on the fun and engaging books they are reading and share about them.

I have specialized in teaching reading for almost a decade! I have a love for learning and teaching that extends beyond the classroom and I infuse confidence coaching into everything I teach. In this class, we will be learning growth-mindset and higher-order thinking/ literacy skills and will aim to provide a framework so that every student will end the course with a brighter spark for reading.
