includedClass Experience
Through live teacher interaction, audio clips, short films and videos, students will see and hear native speakers in authentic locations around the Spanish speaking world. Presented to reach audio visual learners, these activities help build competency in each of the four domains of language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Throughout the semester students will have "mini projects" which will integrate technology and all four domains - listening, speaking, reading, and writing. During this course students will be assessed through project based learning to demonstrate their mastery of the Spanish language concepts taught in this course, as well as the cultural concepts, in a modality that is appropriate for their unique learning style. In addition to learning new words and phrases en español, learners will also learn about the cultures of Spanish speaking countries with learner centered activities, novice Spanish speakers will build important skills, such as critical thinking, collaboration, and communication! The first two weeks of class I will teach and/or review basic Spanish greetings, class subjects, talk about favorite things and telling time. Throughout the course each session will include teaching and/or review of the alphabet and phonics, greeting people and introducing yourself in multiple ways, days of the week/months of the year, weather conditions, grammar and conjugating verbs in the present and past tense. Your learners will be encouraged to listen, speak, read, and write in Spanish each class. Practice for up to 30 minutes outside out class during the week is highly recommended and suggested. This will include reviewing classwork and either a video or voice recording. Please encourage your learner to practice as much as possible at home, and then they will feel confident interacting with others and with me during each class. Parental Guidance
Romance languages use general rules to identify the gender of nouns and adjectives and will be taught in the traditional manner. I do not have pedagogical training to teach neutral gender using @ or X. If your learner has a non binary identity, I highly recommend having this conversation with your learner prior to enrollment and clearly indicate the preferred gender/pronoun so I can address your learner appropriately (ie. Amiga for females and those who identify as female and Amigo for males and those who identify as male).
Supply List
I will provide materials for class which includes PDF FILES and other printable materials. Please provide a binder and a folder for the duration of the course.
