In this class, we will play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate together. The goal of this class is for students to socially interact with other students as they play the game each week. All skill levels are welcome, but for maximum enjoyment, the student should have a basic knowledge of how to play the game. #builder PLEASE NOTE: Students are expected to show good sportsmanship. They will not win every match and things won't always go their way. We will sometimes have to take turns and adjust the game rules to what the majority wants. I will try my best to make sure everyone has fun, but students should do their best to have a good attitude. ALSO: If a student is spamming/doing something to upset and or annoy other students, I will give them a warning. If they keep acting up, I will put them in the zoom waiting room and kick them out of the battle arena for 10 minutes. They will then be able to rejoin after the time is up. If they repeatedly keep acting up after this, I will make them leave class. If problems like these happen in more than 3 meetings, I will withdraw the student. Before class starts, I will set up an online Battle Arena room. Once class starts, I will share the room's ID and password in the zoom chat, so students can join. I will provide instructions and help everyone get set up to play. Once we're all ready, we will play for the rest of the class time. I will keep everyone unmuted, so we can have relaxed and friendly conversations. The goal is not to win, but to have fun. Students will have the opportunity to ask each other questions about the game's strategy and characters. VERY IMPORTANT: Please note that the student will not be able to participate in class if they don't have the following. -A Nintendo Switch -A copy of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate -A subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online Service You may want to keep the charger nearby or make sure the device is fully charged before class. Before class, please make sure the student's Nintendo Switch is charged, and able to access the online functions. Students should be familiar enough with the game that they are able to access the online features, choose their character, and participate in matches. In order to join the class's online Battle Arena room, students will need to follow these directions. 1. From the game's main menu, choose "Online" 2. Choose "Smash" 3. Choose "Battle Arenas" 4. Choose "Join Arena" 5. Choose "Enter Arena ID" 6. Type the ID provided in the zoom chat 7. Choose the arena name provided in the zoom chat 8. Type the password provided in the zoom chat 9. Once you join the room, you will be able to choose your character and desired stage. This method will ensure that only my students can join the room. I will provide more detailed instructions and assistance in class.
Learning Goals
In this social club, students will meet other players close to their age and also get the chance to practice new strategies and ask questions about the game and characters. As they play together, we can learn from each other and form friendships.

Bachelor's Degree in Science from Indiana University
I have been playing Super Smash bros ever since Melee back in 2007. I've played every new game since then. While I'm not a professional tier player, I know most of the game's ins and outs and am happy to share my knowledge with my students! I also attended a social club where we played Super Smash Bros. in college, so I am familiar with the best ways to keep gameplay fair, fun, and engaging for students.
