Students will be identifying 2-dimensional shapes. Using copies of the handouts provided the students will practice demonstrating how to draw the line of symmetry after the instructor has define reflectional symmetry. The instructor will then discuss with the students how shapes can be composed by putting together other shapes. Together with the teacher the students will identity two ways to make a trapezoid using other shapes. Students will work independently on showing several ways a hexagon can be composed before discussing the solutions in the group. The class will end with a review of the information present.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of reflectional symmetry and demonstrate the line of symmetry. Students will also learn about composing shapes from other shapes.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am offering this class a way to introduce students to a basic concept of symmetry and geometry. These concepts are fun to learn and also prepare children to learn about equal parts and fractions later on.
I often introduce these concepts to my more advance Pre-Kindergartens right before they leave to for to kindergarten.
This was the unit my son and I researched and focused on for a math project.
