Class Experience
Young musicians of all ages and beginning-intermediate abilities will have the rare opportunity to learn to play both the piano and the violin at the same time. As a violinist learns to read music and play their violin, it helps to learn it along with the piano. Musical notes on the piano are set up in a logical form that makes learning note reading easy. A student who can play both piano and violin has a major musical advantage over those who only play one or the other. This ongoing,...
Young musicians will be able to play both the violin and basic piano through innovative teaching techniques and personalized, private classes.
I (Miss Helen) am an internationally trained violinist with a passion to play her violin. I have taught students from the sweet little 4-6 year-olds to fun-loving intermediate level violinists! It has been a joy to conduct community youth orchestras, lead violin camps, give private and group lessons and direct school violin programs. I believe in making learning fun, by playing games, moving, and doing challenges. Some of the students I have taught have performed in Carnegie Hall, attended top music conservatories, are professional fiddlers, and continue playing for life to bless their families and churches. I cater to your child's personal learning style and abilities. We progress as your child is ready so that they find a life-long love for their instrument.
Students should practice most days of the week (I usually take one day off). Practice time will vary depending on the age and level of each student.
For Beginners: Violin Books: Suzuki Book 1 for Violin, Essential Elements 2000 for Violin: Book 1 Piano Book: Alfred Piano Book All In One: Level 1 Violin, Shoulder Rest, Rosin, fingerboard finger tape (check out Shar Music or Johnson Strings online, or your own local music shop) Piano or Keyboard with standard sized keys. For those with prior experience, bring your current method books to your first class and we will go from there.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Parents of children age 6 and 7 should be available to help their child when the teacher is teaching their child how to hold the bow and violin, as well as how to sit up at the piano and place fingers on the keys. Once you have learned, please have your violin tuned before class. I will help parents of young children learn how.
