Even though summer is winding down, it is always a good time to draw and paint sunflowers! I will kick off the workshop by talking about a few basics of painting and drawing and make sure everyone is comfortable with their materials. Then we'll do some practice sketching where we will plan our painting and practice a few different styles of patterns and discuss different types of symmetry before we begin our project. This will involve a mix of drawing and watercolor techniques for the for the most wildly unique flowers we can imagine - including wax resist and wet on wet watercolor techniques! You will need: Watercolor paints, brushes, multiple sheets of watercolor paper, pencil, standard sharpie, white crayon, water, paper towel, scratch paper for sketching and testing colors. Optional Additional Supplies: Preprinted inspirational insect photos, watercolor crayons, pencils, metallic watercolors if you have anything on hand. A small amount of any salt can be used also to sprinkle on wet watercolors for a neat effect.
Learning Goals
Students will gain more control of color mixing, drawing techniques and will understand pattern and symmetry.
