Class Experience
This six-week multi-day course will provide direct instruction in vocabulary, which is the cornerstone of reading comprehension. I plan to make this class experience a great one by developing a relationship with each child. The students will be learning the words orally. Children can listen and learn far more than they can actually read themselves. The students will greatly improve their vocabulary base by learning the vocabulary words from Wordly Wise Voabulary for Kindergarten. (Book K)...
Students will learn vocabulary words vital to increased growth in their word base. The goal is to have the students internalize these words. Students will be made more aware of the words in their world and be able to add them to their normal spoken and written vocabulary. The words in this kindergarten book are also used and worked into the first grade book so students will still get exposure to these first words.
Why would you want me to teach your child? I am approachable, knowledgeable, and highly qualified to teach vocabulary and reading. I devote my time to making these classes enjoyable and valuable for the learners. As a retired teacher of 33 years, I have taught this same Wordly Wise curriculum for grades four, five, and six in a public classroom for many years. I am certified as a gifted teacher, so I offer higher level critical thinking. I feel excited and comfortable to be sharing this knowledge with students. Please check out my parent reviews, as my parents are very happy with my Wordly Wise courses. I truly feel if the student is interested, and will complete the work, this class will make a huge difference in the life of the student! It just may be a game changer!
If a parent reviews our ten words per lesson, that would be great! Most lessons we will play a Kahoot review game, so if the child knows the word meanings, he or she will do better on the quiz.
For the multi-day course, students will be required to purchase a workbook: Wordly Wise 3000 Book K. The cover shows three children near a tree with a kitty in the tree.. These are available on Amazon new for $19.95 I would not recommend buying a used book.
The best evidence of this class will be when the students begin to use on their own, the words we are studying! Students will not be graded with a letter grade. Students will grade their own work during class. Students will have their knowledge checked by an assessment weekly in their student books. As the class progresses, we will do assessment on a Kahoot quiz.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
