Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am very excited to be your Outschool teacher. I am a certified teacher through 8th grade and have been teaching and working with children for over 20 years. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Reading. I have ten years of experience in the traditional classroom teaching 2nd and 3rd grade. I also have three years of online teaching experience and six years as a director of children's ministry.
I am married and have three beautiful children, ages 16, 14 and 7. We stay busy with band, pep squad and many sports activities. In my spare time I enjoy going on long walks, reading and watching traveling/food shows.
I enjoy teaching reading classes and especially have a passion for emerging and struggling/reluctant readers. I like to use hands-on methods, songs and rhymes and multi-sensory techniques when possible in the online classroom. Reading should be FUN!
My language arts and reading classes for younger students focus on pre-reading and writing skills, letter sounds, phonics, fluency and comprehension. I also teach elementary classes that focus on specific reading skills and different genres.
My math classes focus on early skills such as number recognition, counting, shape and color recognition, measuring, sorting and graphing. My elementary math classes focus on specific skills including number sense, comparing numbers, time and measurement, geometry, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and problem solving.
I value working with parents and strive to give effective and timely feedback on your child's progress.
I have a laid back, but structured environment in my classroom and every child feels welcomed and encouraged.
Please check out my video and browse through my available classes. I can't wait to see you in my classroom!
