In this class, we will cover a short history of how Shakespeare created words, how they went out of style and some that have stayed with us. We will compare that to how language evolves today with a brief discussion. I'll introduce how paraphrase can help us to understand Shakespeare. We will end class by practicing saying some of Shakespeare's words with a game of Shakespearean compliments and insults. Everyone is a winner, because at the end of class, we've had fun learning to speak Shakespeare's words without fear. I love Shakespeare and know that when presented in a fun and interactive way, it doesn't have to be scary. In fact, it can be joyful and fun. My teaching style involves giving every student multiple opportunities to try stuff. While I offer information, it isn't a lecture, but rather an interactive class experience.
Learning Goals
Students will be introduced to ways in which language evolves.
Students will leave class more confident in their ability to navigate Shakespeare's language.

Teacher expertise and credentials
New to Outschool, I specialize in audition preparation.
As a professional actor and director, I teach a range of acting classes both for fun and as high school/college prep. I keep my classes small and active, so that each student gets individual attention in every class.
I'm currently based in New York City and have worked at Vassar College, University of Central Florida, PS87, the International School of Zug and Lucerne in Switzerland, in Germany, Kenya and the Philippines, as well as professional theaters across the United States. I am currently a Professor at Marymount Manhattan College where I have worked in recruiting.
I earned my MFA in Performance from the University of Central Florida and my BA in Theater Arts from the University of Washington. As a kid, I loved horses. I was always a pretty independent learner, and my greatest feat is that in the 5th grade, I taught myself to stunt ride with my beautiful Shetland pony, Sky Valley Top Gun.
My students can be seen in National Commercials, Broadway National Tours, off-Broadway, in Opera, Regionally and more.
