This course is designed to help young musicians learn how to read music with a relaxed approach, play melodies on the guitar and play simple chords. Students will need to purchase a guitar book for this class. Each week students will learn and review music terms and symbols that will help them become more fluent in reading music. As a group, students will work on melodies and chords, but students will also be encouraged to choose a song to work on during the week and play for the teacher...
Students will learn music symbols, how to read guitar music, how to play chords, and start to develop ear training.
I have been teaching guitar since I was in high school. I have had almost 2 decades of experience working in the elementary classroom and really try to connect with students to help them understand and enjoy the language of music.
To develop and strengthen their musicianship, students will need to practice a minimum of 15-20+ minutes a day.
The FJH Young Beginner Guitar Method Book 2 Lesson Book The FJH Young Beginner Guitar Method Book 2 Theory Book A Notebook and pencil. If you choose to print the additional music that will be sent a folder will be useful. I do suggest purchasing a guitar or chromatic tuner: https://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Tuners/b?ie=UTF8&node=11968711 A tuner could be purchased at a local music instrument store.
I will listen to the students weekly and assess their playing.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Parents may need to remain close by if their child is playing an electric guitar (for safety).
