Scrunchies!! This trendy versatile hair accessory is a summer must-have. Keep cool with your hair up, and share handmade scrunchies with your friends! In this 2 day class beginners will learn to make crochet hair scrunchies. Hair scrunchies are an ideal beginner project. There are no lengthy patterns to read, no sizes to worry about, and mistakes are easy to either fix, make look intentional, or hide! We will begin with the very basics: learning terminology, best practices for holding your yarn and hook and how to make slip knots and slip stitches. Then we will apply this to wrapping single crochet stitches around a hair rubber-band. The second day of class will build on the first day with students finishing at least one round of crochet on a hair rubber-band. Students who are able to continue will be shown how to make their scrunchie fluffier by adding more rounds of crochet stitch, double crochet, or even changing colors. All students will be shown how to finish off their hair scrunchie project.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to read abbreviations for 4 crochet stitches. They will learn how to hold yarn and a crochet hook left or right handed, with modifications for comfort. They will learn how to slip knot, slip stitch, single crochet and double crochet. They will learn how to wrap a hair rubber-band with crochet, how to fix mistakes and how to finish off a project. NOTE: This class is ideally taken with the student on camera for most of the class so that the teacher can observe and assist with the student's hand motions. Some students may wish to take the class more than one time for maximum proficiency.
