Summer Screening for Barton Reading and Spelling Dyslexia Program
The one-time screener for the Barton Reading and Spelling System is a quick informal assessment to determine the most suitable placement for students within the Barton Reading & Spelling Program, specifically tailored for dyslexic students. This screener can also determine whether the Barton system is needed, or if your students just needs some targeted intervention in specific areas.
*Since a small portion of this screening requires your student to move tiles on the screen, it is recommended to use a desktop/laptop computer instead of an iPad.

The one-time screener for the Barton Reading and Spelling System is a quick informal assessment to determine the most suitable placement for students within the Barton Reading & Spelling Program, which is specifically tailored for dyslexic students. Short description of the Barton Reading and Spelling Program: The Barton Reading and Spelling Program is a structured literacy program designed to help individuals with reading and spelling difficulties, particularly those with dyslexia. Developed by Susan Barton, it is a comprehensive, Orton-Gillingham-influenced system that provides explicit and systematic instruction to address the specific needs of struggling readers. One of the key features of the Barton program is its multi-sensory approach. Students engage in various activities that involve seeing, hearing, and feeling the sounds and patterns of language. They use visual aids, such as letter tiles or flashcards, to reinforce letter-sound associations. Additionally, they practice writing and spelling words to reinforce their understanding of spelling patterns and rules.
Learning Goals
The screener is designed to be a one-time assessment, providing a comprehensive snapshot of your child's current literacy skills. Its purpose is to accurately identify the specific areas where your child may benefit from additional support and intervention. Through this process, Mrs. Rose can create an individualized plan that optimizes your child's learning journey within the Barton Reading and Spelling Program.
