In this four-session course, students will analyze nonfiction texts on a science or social studies topic and write a five-paragraph persuasive essay. *Students will be given an optional writing assessment on the last day to complete independently. 1. Students will use key reading skills for nonfiction text: identifying author's point of view and comparing & contrasting. 2. Students will write a five-paragraph essay that states an opinion supported by reasons, evidence, and rebuttal of the opposing point of view. 3. Students will write an essay that includes an introduction with a thesis statement; well developed body paragraphs; and a conclusion that summarizes and leaves a final thought.
