US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 3
This is a one-on-one ongoing class geared toward kindergarten, grade one and grade two learners who would benefit from one-on-one practice with reading. Learners will practice letter sounds and corresponding letter names, phonics, pronunciation, word families, sight words, reading, with lessons customized to their learning needs. Note: This tutoring class is suitable for Kindergarten students who are preparing for Grade One and want to practice letter recognition, letter sounds, and emergent reading with phonics and sight words. The lessons will be focusing heavily on the sounds we hear in words. We will practice segmenting, blending using various techniques, and decodable readers. Learners will also work with the teacher to decode sight words instead of memorizing sight words. We will break down the sounds of the sight words "learn by heart" the small parts of the word that are spelled differently than they sound. (science of reading based) After assessing your learner's current level of literacy, the teacher will select suitable activities to begin with, based on the goals parents have for their child. Each class will feature engaging slides and PERSONALIZED content to keep the child interested and progressing with each class. The teacher will customize class activities to suit your learner's interests. The teacher often uses education.com for learning games and activities, as well as other fun and interactive games/brain breaks in her vast repertoire. Each student will be given access to education.com to play learning games and read leveled readers after class. This unique login code will be provided to the family for FREE and is a completely optional opportunity provided by the teacher. The class progression and topics from week to week will be learner/parent directed, based on the goals set out by the parents. Keep in mind this is an ongoing class. Therefore you can subscribe/unsubscribe at any time.

Hello! My name is Jen. I live in Ontario, Canada and I was an elementary teacher Pre-K to Grade 8 for 18 years in the public school system. I have been an online teacher since May 2019, and I really enjoy teaching small group and one on one classes. I teach classes for all of these age ranges including one on one tutoring instruction. I'm most passionate about teaching K to 6 math and teaching reading using phonics and the sounds we hear in words to help kids read and spell with increased accuracy.
From building your child's reading and spelling confidence, to learning fractions and order of operations, to singing, moving, and sharing with kindergarten students, I can't wait to meet your learner! My goal is for every student to leave my class with new information, personal connections, and a smile on their face.
My husband and I have two children ages 14 and 12, and we enjoy our three cats, summers spent by the pool, and time with friends and family.
