Class Experience

What will be taught?
Students will be introduced to a unique concept of doing calculations on Abacus and as a result, mentally. They will learn basic calculations on Abacus, involving 1,2,3,4 digit numbers, do mental calculations based on this concept and visual exercises. We will also play logic games and do other fun intellectual things. The classes are very engaging and fun! Students love the idea of seeing numbers in a new way that allows them to be faster and use Abacus or their mental math skills!
Topics covered:
Week 1 - Numbers 1-5, 10-50, 100-500, 1000-5000. Mental Math practice. Memory game (numbers).
Week 2 - Numbers 6-7, 60-70, 600-700, 6000-7000. Mental Math practice. Memory game (squares)
Week 3 - Numbers 8-9, 80-90, 800-900, 8000-9000. Mental Math practice. Competition - Abacus math.
Week 4 - Abacus Practice/ Competition. Mental Math Practice/ Competition.
Week 5 - Review. Mental Math Exercises/ Practice. Math games. Competition.

Each class consists of the group learning when teacher explain the theme and students ask questions. Next, students practice new skills on Abacus as a group and individually. As they acquire the new skill we do a short contest, games, visual exercises etc. After that it's time for Mental Math exercises which are really fun. Before the class is finished teacher and students discuss homework for the week.

I engage with every student when teaching and pay close attention to how well each of them understands the topic and the new skill. In my classes we all enjoy the process of learning. In this process students understand that math can be so much fun!

I ask parents to make sure the students join the class in time. If your child is late they will be able to watch the missed part of the class in the recorded version while during the class they would try catch up with the group.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to do calculations on Abacus and mentally with basic Abacus manipulations (no formulas involved).

I keep it as a priority in my teaching to help kids to enjoy learning and gain more confidence in themselves. It’s so important as they grow not to be afraid to learn new things but to thrive in it!
As kids learn Abacus math through various activities they not only gain a better number sense but also their memory, critical thinking, concentration develop so well that it improves their academic performance in other areas as well. Doing mental arithmetic involves both hemispheres of the brain at the same time! It's amazing to see the results even after 5 or 6 classes of Abacus Mental Arithmetic.
Along with that I love having fun in a smart way, so I also implement such fun thing in my classes as Magic Snake, which is a logic puzzle to make different patterns and shapes with. Kids love it and we even organize competitions, challenges and other group activities with our favorite toy!
