15 in-class hoursHomework
1-2 hours per week. At the end of many classes students will be given a worksheet to cover material from the class (and often previous classes). We will go over all correct answers at the beginning of the next class and students will have time to ask questions and discuss solutions and their processes of answering the questions.Class Experience
US Grade 9 - 12
Welcome!! This is a 10 week Multi-Day summer course that will take a sneak peak of the concepts students will cover when entering High School Geometry. Geometry is heavily based in math logic and draws on the tools taught in Algebra 1. In Geometry, we deal with properties, measurements, theorems, spatial reasoning and more. Geometry can be a challenging class, but with a little practice before hand I believe we can make your learner ready to succeed in regular or honors Geometry!! School is challenging enough by itself. Let's work together to make the math part easier! During this 10 week course we will learn concepts in an interactive format. Students will be able to build understanding, have problems modeled for them, and have time to do independent practice where I can check for their understanding. At the end of most classes students will be given a worksheet to cover material from the class (and often previous classes). We will go over all correct answers at the beginning of the next class and students will have time to ask questions and discuss solutions and their processes of answering the questions. The following are the concepts that we will focus on each week (remember, there are 2 classes each week so we will make sure to dive into these topics thoroughly as possible): Week 1: Solving Equations Review Week 2: Line Segments, Segment Addition, and Introduction to Midpoint Week 3: Distance and Midpoint Formula Week 4: Inductive Reasoning, Compound Statements, and Truth Tables Week 5: Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal Week 6: Interior and Exterior Angles in Triangles Week 7: Congruence in Triangles Week 8: Triangle Midsegment Theorem Week 9: Similar Polygons Week 10: Pythagorean Theorem and SOHCAHTOA **FREE 1:1 TUTORING AVAILABLE WHEN STUDENTS NEED EXTRA HELP!! (Message for details) I have taught math for 18 years in fun and interactive ways with much success. I have taught Regular and Honors Geometry many times and I'm excited to bring my experience to OutSchool. Though my approach can be characterized as energetic and engaging, the structure and detail of the class guarantees students will be presented knowledge in a way that cultivates mastery. Student learning is my passion, and I truly believe math can be mastered in a fun environment. I expect each student to come to class with a pencil and notebook, ready to take notes and ready to participate. I also expect students to give a good attempt on the worksheets that are given out each class, so I can check for understanding. Many schools require students to have a scientific calculator such as the TI-30XIIS or the like for Geometry. I would like students to have some type of scientific calculator or calculating device during each class. These calculators can be usually found for about $15-$25. If you have questions about the calculator please message me. I hope to see your learner in class soon!! Brian McNair
