Class Experience

Summer Piano Fun (Level 2) | 8 Classes | 8 Songs

In this 8-week ongoing piano class, we will be learning a new Summer-theme piano music and have fun creating our own variations of the music by exploring new rhythm and/or melodies together.

In each class, we will learn to play a new piano music by analyzing and exploring the rhythmic and melodic patterns that are found in the new song for each week. Once we practice the melodic and rhythmic patterns and the piano music together, students will be invited to create their own variations of the songs by exploring new rhythm and/or notes.

In this class, we will meet weekly for a total of 8-20min ongoing classes. Students are welcome to join any time, stop subscription for the week(s) that they may be away, and/or re-join the class throughout the term.

Join us for all the classes and learn to play all 8 songs!

Upcoming Summer Fun from July-August 2022 🎶

Piano Fun has 2 different sections:

Level 1
For the first time piano players; All music will be learned by rote without music notation.

Level 2
For the beginner piano students with basic music notation reading skills*

*In our Level 2 class, all students will receive a copy of the piano music needed for our classes (i.e., 1-2 pages per week). We will be analyzing the music together by discussing the various rhythmic and melodic patterns in the music, and students will need to have music notation reading skills to participate fully in the class.

Dear Outschool students and parents,

Thank you for your interest in my arts-based piano and applied music theory classes and I’m so happy to be exploring creative ways of exploring music and piano playing with the Outschool community.

I am a pianist, teacher, and educational researcher with over 20 years of music and piano teaching experiences. I completed my PhD in Curriculum Studies, specializing in music education and arts-based research methodologies.

Based on my doctoral research, I have been developing my own arts-based piano and music theory curriculum that integrate piano improvisation, stories, poems, and/or drawings to encourage, support, and inspire children’s own unique, individual ways of exploring music and learning to play the piano.

In our piano classes, we will learn to play the piano by creating our own music, improvise new sound effects on the piano to accompany the storybooks, read/write poetry as inspirations for our piano playing, and lots of drawings to express our musical ideas.

In our theory classes, we will learn to read, write, and compose our own beautiful melodies and harmonies together.

If you have any questions and/or would like more information about my current and/or upcoming new piano and theory classes, please contact me and I'm happy to connect with you.

Thank you everyone and I look forward to creating many beautiful, fun music, drawings, poems, and stories with you!

Happy piano playing and music writing~
