1-2 hours per week. I will include optional homework assignments that can be used, including an answer guide and recommended strategies for solving the problem (where applicable).Class Experience
US Grade 2
Beginner Level
This class will cover all of the standards that are expected for second graders to learn over the school year, though they will be covered in a faster pace since students should be using this as a refresher, rather than a completely new experience I like to teach with lots of visuals and so that students can observe the process. I also like to provide opportunities for students to practice, so I will include some practice (which might include students pausing the videos and coming back with completed work) and explanations that students can use to figure out if they answered the questions correctly. Since this is asynchronous, students will mostly be using lecture/video to review and practice their skills.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to represent and solve mathematical problems using addition and subtraction (up to 100).
Students will mentally add and subtract up to 20.
Students will create arrays and equal groups to help solve problems and compare numbers.
Students will be able to identify the place value of numerals in numbers up to three digits.
Students will be able to count within 1000, including skip counting by 5s, 10s, and 100s.
Students will be able to compare two 3-digit numbers.
Students will be able to partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares and describe them using fraction language (such as half, third, fourth).
Students will be able to use a number line to solve problems.
Students will be able to tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes, using A.M. and P.M.
Students will be able to solve word problems, involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. They will use the dollar and cents signs appropriately.
Students will be able to draw a picture graph and a bar graph with single-unit scale to represent a data set with up to four categories, then solve simple put-together, take-apart, and compare problems using the information represented in that graph.
