Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
Learning multiplication facts makes more complicated math MUCH easier! Fractions, decimals, long division, ratio, rate, percent, exponents--it all builds on your student's ability to recall their multiplication facts. In this lively, upbeat class, students play games where they WANT to know their facts in order to do better. They will still need to practice them outside of class, of course, but this will motivate them to start learning.

In this ongoing summer class, students gain practice in skills of multiplication and division facts, while engaging in game play. They learn strategies for using facts they know to figure out unknown facts. They also learn tricks to help them memorize facts. As kids play games, I take advantage of teachable moments to further their skills. This class follows a Singapore Math style, with a focus on the game play repetition. It's perfect for those who have already been introduced to multiplication and division, but need some more practice. It's also great for kids who love math, and want to keep up their skills over the summer.

Students should be comfortable with the concept that multiplication and division deal with equal groups.

ABOUT SINGAPORE MATH
**********************************
Singapore Math is a mastery-based approach to math, where students progress from concrete examples (real life), to pictures, and finally apply their knowledge to the abstract, using numbers and algorithms. Students do a lot of hands-on work, as well as, mental math. Instead of mimicking procedures, they learn how to think mathematically and apply what they know to solve problems. One of the major benefits of the program is the hands-on activities and games. This class provides them with the opportunity to play and learn with other students from around the world!
