Why are fractions so confusing? Mostly it's because the student doesn't have strategies to picture what's going on. In this lively, upbeat class, students learn how to visualize fractions as they find equivalent fractions, use mixed numbers, and add and subtract fractions. As students play, I take advantage of teachable moments to further their understandings of fractions. This class follows a Singapore Math style, with a focus on repetition during game play. It's perfect for those who have already been introduced to fractions, but need some more practice. It's also great for kids who love math, and want to keep up their skills over the summer. ****************** SUMMER 2024 ****************** The schedule below lists the focus for each week. Students do a lot of hands-on work, as well as, mental math. Instead of mimicking procedures, they learn how to think mathematically and apply what they know to solve problems. One of the major benefits of the program is the hands-on activities and games. This class provides them with the opportunity to play and learn with other students from around the world!
