Summer Math Course 1: First Grade Math Review - Get Ready for Second Grade!
In this summer course, students will review and practice all crucial and required math topics from 1st grade to help them prepare for 2nd grade, including addition, subtraction, shapes, measurement, time, place value and word problems.

Get ready for second grade with this fun and engaging summer math camp! In this interactive 1st Grade Math Review & 2nd Grade Prep course, students will review key first-grade math concepts to strengthen skills and build confidence before entering second grade. Topics include addition, subtraction, place value, shapes, measurement, time, money, and word problems. What to Expect: - Interactive Learning – Each class starts with a discussion to assess students’ prior knowledge and make real-world connections. - Engaging Instruction – Using the "I Do, We Do, You Do" method, students will first observe, then practice together, and finally apply their skills independently with support. - Hands-On Practice – Students will solve math problems, play interactive games, and complete real-world challenges. - Critical Thinking & Discussion – Thought-provoking questions will encourage problem-solving and deeper understanding. - Optional Homework & Review – Additional practice worksheets and review materials will be available upon request. Who Should Enroll? - Best for ages 5-8 or learners who want to review first-grade math before starting second grade. - Students should have some familiarity with basic counting, addition, subtraction, and shapes. - Great for summer learning, skill reinforcement, or homeschool enrichment! Class Requirements: 📝 Materials Needed: A whiteboard & marker or paper & pencil. Occasionally, worksheets may be provided (posted 24+ hours in advance). 💻 Teacher-Led Instruction: Lessons and activities will be shared via screen; no additional apps required. Learning Needs
We have experience working with learners of all abilities, including ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ASD and more. Learners of all abilities are welcomed and encouraged to join us in class. Please contact us for more information.
Parental Guidance
Parents may need to print PDF worksheets from the classroom before class. The teacher will post any materials to the classroom at least 24 hours in advance.
Pre-Requisites
No prior classes required!
Students should have a basic understanding of counting to 100, simple addition and subtraction, recognizing shapes and coins.
Ideal for learners ages 5-8 who want to review first-grade math before second grade.
Supply List
Something to write with and something to write on - notebook/pencil or whiteboard/marker Parents may need to assist the learners by printing a PDF worksheet or printout for the class. The teacher will post any materials in the classroom 24 hours in advance.

This curriculum was developed by and used with the permission from Ms. Ashley, an SBA admin and teacher. Ms. Ashley graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree, majoring in both education and mathematics. Later, she went on to also earn a TESOL teacher’s certificate. She has taught over 10,000+ virtual classes in all subjects over several years on different platforms. She has 18+ years of tutoring/teaching experience, both virtual and in-person, as well as 16 years+ of experience as a volunteer teacher, tutor, and coach in schools and classrooms. In addition to teaching, Ms. Ashley is part of curriculum development and review team for an online ELA and math teaching/tutoring company, where she also serves as a Learning Partner and Academic Advisor for incoming students. Other related experience includes ELA and math tutoring the University of Connecticut Student Center, substitute teaching in the public school system and working for five years as a Financial Controller of a litigation support firm with offices across the United States. Ms. Ashley truly values each and every student, and she hopes to help them to find a love of learning.
