Are you ready to add some warm summer vibes to your cool winter? Let's ditch our hat and gloves because it's time to make some summer inspired art! "Choose Your Painting!": As with all my art classes, I like to give learners a choice of at least two (often several!) different styles at the beginning of each class. This way each learner can see different ways of painting as well as have some freedom as to which painting they'd like to make. (This will also take into account that some younger learners prefer cuter, cartoon-like art styles.) Let's dive in and have a look at all the pictures you will be creating during the week! Day One: Summer Break: A Day at the Beach! Day Two: Summer Refreshments: Fruit or Ice-cream Anyone? Day Three: Summer Outdoors: In the Backyard This is an instructional class so I will be showing step by step how to create each picture, letting the learner follow along. As we paint, learners will be seeing some basic beginner principles of painting such as where to start first, the power of color, and creating depth. Of course, if a learner just wants to watch for inspiration and create their own picture with a different look, this is perfectly fine too. Commonly Asked Questions: My learner prefers a specific art medium. Is this OK? Yes, any art medium can be used. Most of my artwork is done using either watercolor, gouache, or acrylic paint. However, if your learner prefers something else, this is perfectly fine. Feel free to let me know what preferences your learner may have. My learner is very young and doesn't have any art experience. Will this class be too difficult for them? The beauty of art is that all ages can enjoy making it, even toddlers! At the beginning of each class I will show a couple (sometimes several!) different picture examples (some easier and simpler than others) so that we can choose the one that best fits the level of your learner. I also have art that can be made with markers or colored pencils for learners who don't want to use paint. As there is no "right or wrong" way of making art in this fun, relaxed class, all ages are welcomed to join! My child would like to take this class with their friend. Is it possible to have more than one learner sign up for the camp? Yes. While this camp is set to 1:1 by default, I can always open up another spot if your learner would like to take it with their friend(s). This can make class more fun for sure! Simply contact me for details if this interests you. If you are looking for another type of class similar to this one but tailored more to your learner's current needs, feel free to reach out to me and I'll do my best to try and assist you! Don't see a time listed that's convenient for your learner? Feel free to reach out to me with a day/time request!
Learning Goals
Learners will have fun painting in a stress-free environment and will leave the workshop with three summer inspired paintings!

Parental Guidance
Depending on your learner's age, this class may need to be monitored as young children often need help setting up their art supplies, working in a spill safe zone, and with cleaning up. Please make sure your child has their art supplies handy so they can get started as easily as possible.
Supply List
While learners can request to use any medium they would like (crayons, colored pencils, pastels, etc), here is what they will need if they would like to do watercolor: watercolor paper (this is a thicker paper made specifically for using watercolors), watercolor paints, at least one paintbrush, a cup of water for dipping the brush in, and a paper towel (or other towel to avoid spills/clean up). If your learner prefers another paint type such as poster paint or acrylic paint you can use any kind of paper that is sturdy enough for painting on along with a cup of water, paintbrush, paper towel, and paper plate/painting dish for putting the paint in.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from United States Institute of Language and Clerical Studies *No expiration date
Art has been one of my favorite subjects since I was a small child. As a teenager, I had a few pieces displayed in a local art gallery (mostly acrylic paint; some multi media) with some of them winning me free classes at a local art school two years in a row. As an adult, I have enjoyed incorporating art into my English lessons for over ten years as children seem to pay more attention in class if they are given some creative time. I currently host zoom "art nights" where creative people around the US get together and paint or sketch (some doing digital art).
