Class Experience

Day 1: Notes on the First String

We will introduce ourselves and show each other our guitars! We will discuss parts of the guitar, strategies to get the best sound from the guitar, how to hold the instrument, use of a pick, and the best hand positions to use while playing. Students will learn the basics of the treble clef, and how to read and play the notes E, F, and G.  We will begin to practice the song "Spanish Theme" in the Hal Leonard Guitar method book. 

Day 2: "Spanish Theme"...

Students will learn:
Parts of the guitar
How to hold a guitar and pick
Notes on the 1st 2 strings of the guitar
Short songs "Spanish Theme" and "Ode to Joy"
Chords and strategies for strumming along to a popular song.

Learners will be expected to practice approximately 10 minutes per evening during this camp in order to have a fun and successful experience!

Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1
Supplementary materials provided in the classroom
A tuned acoustic or electric guitar
A guitar pick

The instructor will informally assess and give constructive feedback throughout the 4 days of the class.

2 hours 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
