1 hour per week. Students can practice the material we learn that day once before the next day of class. Classes are back-to-back so it does not allow for a lot of time to practice, this summer camp is meant for students to practice and learn each day in class.Class Experience
Beginner Level
In this 4-Day Summer Camp, students will be given an introduction to guitar playing. This is a fun way to try out the guitar as a new instrument and to see if a student may have an interest in continuing with private lessons in the future. In this class we will be learning: Names of the strings How to strum and pick Strumming rhythms How to read music (there is no expectation that students will learn how to fully read music in just four days, it is an introduction to a few notes and HOW to read music) Music Notation and Rhythm A few basic songs Chords Using the chords to create your own song DAY 1: Intro to the Instrument, Tuning, using a pick, how to strum and pick, learning our first notes! DAY 2: Reviewing first 3 notes and reading music, counting and rhythm, our first chord DAY 3: Playing first 3 notes with more advanced music, learning about TAB, playing first chord and learning another chord DAY 4: Learning second string with new notes, reading music and strumming chords DAY 5: Reviewing all notes with warmups, new music, strumming three chords and wrap-up! If there is more time in class we will include more strings and notes, more chords and strumming techniques. Tuning will be discussed but students are expected to try to tune their guitars BEFORE class. If this is difficult please contact me before the first class and I am happy to help. My hope is that students have fun, get to know the guitar, and develop a passion for wanting to continue in the future! Please message me with any questions at any time.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Canadian Mennonite University
As a music educator for over 25 years I have found that every lesson and class is different! I design each class for those students, their levels, their ages, and their interests. I always include reading music both with note reading and TAB for guitar, as well as proper rhythm and counting, I also use learning by ear and songs that students would know.
