Are you gearing up for the next level of mathematics and want to ensure you have a solid foundation to build upon? Look no further! This course is specifically tailored to prepare you for the challenges and excitement of PreCalculus by revisiting essential Algebra 2 topics in a supportive and engaging environment. Throughout this 5-week class, you'll embark on a journey to master fundamental algebraic principles such as polynomial functions, rational expressions, exponential and logarithmic...
10 lessons//5 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Factoring and Solving PolynomialsFactoring techniques for binomials, trinomials, and four-term polynomials and how to solve polynomials with and without factoring.Lesson 2Operations with Complex NumbersThe imaginary number i, and operations on expressions containing i called the complex numbers.Week 2Lesson 3Systems of EquationsSolving linear systems of two equations and three equations as well as solving nonlinear systems of equations using algebraic techniques.Lesson 4Exponential and Logarithmic EquationsSolving exponential equations with and without logarithms and solving logarithmic equations with exponents.Week 3Lesson 5Analyzing Function GraphsIdentifying domain from equations as well as graphs. Analyzing the behavior of a graph including increasing decreasing intervals, intercepts, and extrema.Lesson 6Transformations of Parent FunctionsThe common parent functions: linear, quadratic, cubic, square root, cube root, exponential, logarithmic and how transformations affect the graph.Week 4Lesson 7Trigonometric GraphsGraphing sine, cosine, and tangent with amplitude, period, phase shift, and midline.Lesson 8Trigonometric Equations and IdentitiesSolving right triangles using trigonometry, solving trigonometric equations, and using trigonometric identities to simplify expressions.Week 5Lesson 9Circles and Completing the SquareWriting and graphing circles in standard form. Using complete the square methods to find the standard form of a circle. If time permits, parabolas will be included here.Lesson 10Rational Functions and AsymptotesIdentifying the key features of a rational function including intercepts, vertical asymptotes, and horizontal asymptotes and using the features to sketch a graph.
Students will review Algebra 2 concepts important to success in Pre-Calculus. These concepts include factoring, solving equations, graphing and more. A detailed breakdown of learning goals each week can be found in the syllabus.
