Summer Explorers

Hello and welcome to a summer full of learning and fun! There's still so much to learn, discover and explore and this class is full of opportunities to do just that! As a former classroom teacher and full time homeschool mom, I'm excited to offer this class that will have your student feeling happy, excited and confident as they learn content through various subject areas that will allow them to feel like a total rockstar before the start of the next school year! 

It's officially summer and who says we can't have a lot of fun but still learn so much cool information about topics and themes that interest us? This summer we will embark on some explorations that will expose us to themes in science, history, mystery, life skills and so much more. Through our exploration we will incorporate valuable content review that will ensure we are ready for the upcoming school year. 

Below you will find an outline of class content as well as specific areas of study for the summer months.  Additional outlines and information will be updated weekly. Classes listed are in the Central Time Zone. Please note: This summer-long class will end on August 21st - however a new, sixth grade FULL school year session that will offer year-long sixth grade curriculum will begin on Sept 2nd and run through the entirety of the school year. I'm still planning and creating that class but will have it up by July 2025 for those that are interested in continuing. Middle school here we come! Summer Semester: Beginning June 2 - Ending August 21st

Week 1 (June 2) - Theme: Outdoor Explorers

* In this 2 week Outdoor explorers unit we will be learning about: nature, photography, sketching, national parks, survival skills (fire starting, shelter building), plant identification, flora & fauna, the night sky and so much more! 

Week 3 (June 16) - Theme: Global Explorers

Week 4 (June 23) - Theme: Global Explorers

* In this 2 week Global Explorers unit we will be learning a little about language, food, cultural customs and traditions, history, geography, virtual field trips and more! 

Week 5 (June 30) - Theme: Entrepreneurial Explorers

Week 6 (July 7) - Theme: Entrepreneurial Explorers

* In this 2 week Entrepreneurial Explorers unit we will brainstorm, create, design and "build"  a product and/or business. We will learn about business models, solving problems and take a step by step approach to creating something one of a kind that you can be proud of. 

Week 7 (July 14) - Theme: Medical Explorers

* In this 2 week Medical Explorers unit we will be covering all of the basics of first aid, CPR, emergency basics, choking hazards/safety as well as pet and animal CPR. 

Week 9 (July 28) - Theme: CSI Explorers

Week 10 (August 4) - Theme: CSI Explorers

* In this 2 week CSI Explorers unit we will be putting on our detective caps to solve mysteries. Through focused reading, the use of logic and true investigative skills, we will learn to look for clues and infer about mysteries that need solving! 

Week 11 (August 11) - Theme: Essential Skills Explorers

Week 12 August 18) - Theme: Essential Skills Explorers

* In this 2 week unit (and as we approach the end of summer) we will focus on essential life skills that will prepare us for middle school. Keys topics include confidence building, communication, decision making, goal setting, time management, problem solving, responsibility and lots more! It will be the perfect way to end summer and get excited about the school year ahead. 

*There is a 2 week break after summer session ends! 
*School year (FULL 6th GRADE CURRICULUM) begins on Sept 2nd!
