Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this camp, students will discuss superpowers and how coding can be a superpower. They'll build three projects, each focusing on a different superpower. Key concepts studied will include sequencing, operators, lists and functions. This class has been designed for students ages 7-11 with any level of coding experience - all are welcome!

Students will learn:
-Using conditions to check how many portals have been used and whether the hero is touching the entrance portal.
-Using an "and" operator to combine two conditions in one statement.
-Defining sequencing and practicing it using the sequencing challenge.
-Using a comparison operator to check if the player is close to a treasure chest.
-Using a list to track which items the hero has found.

The class will be highly interactive since we cap our classes at 6 students. The teacher will work with students to create a project they can be proud of while answering questions and providing support along the way.

Here’s what your student can expect to do during class:
- Welcome + Introductions (5 minutes)
- Theme lesson (5 minutes)
- Code a game in Scratch! (about 40 minutes)
- Student Project Showcase + Say Goodbye (5 minutes)

> Note for Parents:
Your student will need:
- a free Scratch account https://scratch.mit.edu/
- Access to a laptop or desktop computer with Zoom installed and screen-sharing enabled
- An internet connection of 3mbs+
- A working speaker, microphone and webcam - all Windows and Mac operating systems of the past five years are supported

Note: Please make sure an adult is on hand for the first five minutes of class to help set-up and tackle troubleshooting. iPads and tablets are not compatible and will not work for this class. On many occasions the students will be coding the arrow keys on a keyboard.
