Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten
In our ongoing class, each day we will begin with calendar time. Singing our days of the weeks, months of the year, and counting to add dates on to our calendar for the month. Skills in our calendar time will be guided by the Saxon Math curriculum for Kindergarten. Our class will include a focus on skills like: counting, shapes, colors, patterns, tens and ones place value, problem solving, and weather.
Our Kindergarten readiness phonics' skills will come after our calendar time. We will work on mini lessons to support our Kindergarten readiness and work on one task at a time. Skills will include: print concepts (top to bottom/ left to right, spaces between words, letters of the alphabet), phonological awareness (rhyming, segment sounds in words, beginning/medial/ final sounds, sound manipulation, and syllables) , phonics (letter sounds, long and short vowel sounds, silent E application, sight words, decode one syllable words), and fluency (reading emergent reader text with fluency and understanding).

Each class will follow a general pattern for welcome, calendar time, and literacy preparation skill mini lesson, and goodbye. We will be able to work on skills throughout the week, but each class will have a stand alone focus.

Students are able to come and go over the summer as long as there is an opening for enrollment. Resources for the week will be sent out in advanced if there is a printing need for resources.

I’m a compassionate and charismatic teacher who loves to teach! I have taught Kindergarten through 5th grade students for the last 10 years. In that time, I have been a general education teacher in the public schools setting for 8 years and specialized as a reading coach to my school for an additional two years. I have been teaching online since February 2020. I’m certified to teach Elementary education from Kindergarten to 6th grade. I absolutely love teaching Kindergarten and First Grade. I taught Kindergarten for a year and supported their instruction practices for two years as a reading coach. The first year in elementary school is a daunting task for our sweet 5 and 6 year old children. I want to ensure that our classroom is an encouraging, supportive, and safe place to learn and grow as a student. I have taught these lessons in the public school setting with many students who have mastered the content. I’m looking forward to sharing this fun class with your wonderful student!
