Class Experience
I've been online since before I was 12 using chat rooms, many forms of social media, online banking, online investing, learning, and teaching. Professional teacher for over 14 years. Mentor for over 12 years. (Mentoring since I was 17). Youth leader and teacher for over 21 years. I have mentored kids at all ages, from 3 years old into adulthood. I have taught internet safety for my entire professional career in addition to regular curriculum. I have taught internet safety to all the kids I have mentored. I have done professional development sessions at work, showing them how to teach internet safety. I have taught parents internet safety to help keep their kids safe online and in-person. I teach my 2 teenage sons how to stay safe online and monitor their online activity.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
When it comes to internet safety, there's a lot we can talk about. In this class, the most I say about why kids need to be careful when interacting online is that they can be kidnapped and hurt by predators. My class for teens goes into more detail on the topics of what can really happen from predators.
