The purpose of this to support students as they work on their summer reading assignments for school. Before the class, students will purchase their require summer reading book(s) and a notebook. Each week will have a different lesson topic that they will then apply to the books their are reading. We will cover plot structure, theme, symbolism, and author's purpose over the 9 weeks of the course. We will open with a "brain opener" activity, followed by the week's lesson. Then students will work learn and apply the concept of the lesson to the sections they have read in the book. It will close with sharing what they have discovered in their books and what their reading goal for the final week will be.
