Class Experience

Do you have a hard time getting your child excited about reading and writing?
Does your child like to act out scenes from movies, tell stories, create fictional characters and use their imagination?

Then this is a class worth investing in.

In this class we will discuss different core values that shape our character. We will do so in a creative way. Every week we will discuss 2 core values and we will use our imaginations to create a story or skit that will help us learn how we should act or react in certain situations. We will read about my personal experiences and discuss about other people who have had to deal with some sort of adversity and how they were able to overcome. Due to copyright laws we will be using my own stories and experiences. We will also be sharing of other characters we have read in previous books or movies. There will not be any other books from other authors in this course. Students will be encouraged to write out summaries of different books and movies that they have read or watched in the past that relate to the core value we will be discussing. We will learn how to have empathy for others and the importance of standing up for ourselves in a safe and constructive way.
This class is designed to inspire students to read and create their own writings. It is also designed to get students interacting with each other building social skills and learning to problem solve in a group setting.

Week one: What is character and why is it important to have "good character"?
Week two: Respect and Compassion
Week three: Integrity and Responsibility
Week four: Self-control and Humility

We will discuss 2 core values every week and create skits and stories for each characteristic.

**A part two to this class may be offered at a later time.
Learning Goals
The goal of this class is to:
-Provide interesting content for students to practice reading
-Enhance reading comprehension
-Enhance creative writing
-Enhance problem solving skills
-Provide a safe environment for students to speak openly about core values and bullying
-Help students understand core values and how they are important to everyday life
-Create conversations on how to respond in different scenarios that cause adversity
AND more...

Students will learn a variety of core values as well as how to construct a story or a skit. They will also be challenged to act out or present their creative project if they desire. I realize it may take some students some time to build the confidence they need to present their ideas openly. We will learn how to encourage one another and celebrate one another.
We will also be practicing reading and reading comprehension.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Revelation Message Bible College
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Ministry. I have had the amazing opportunity to work with a youth pastor in teaching a type of character development/ leadership class to at-risk teens in a local public high school. The amazing teens we met and their stories were incredible. The fact that we took the time to spend with them talking about core values really helped some of them begin to think with a different perspective. I have also taught drama classes and helped direct skits and plays for audiences of a couple hundred people. I would like to use my skills to offer character development and leadership classes to children, teens and preteens. It is important to me that I use my talents to help students realize their full potential and help them to become confident leaders in their community. I believe this next generation is filled with world changers and it is up to us to cultivate their talents with tenderness, care and compassion.
