Summer Camp - Readers Theatre for Dyslexic Students

Adapting a book to be read as a Readers Theatre integrates all aspects of reading. The focus on deep comprehension, and decoding multisyllabic words, start the journey of creating fluent readers. Humor abounds throughout this story.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
Using Readers Theatre engages, motivates, and improves student reading. Adapting the book Aliens Ate My Homework allows students to read sentences meaningfully, decode words in context, and expand vocabulary. Working as a group helps students see they are not alone, but are supported in their learning.
Readers Theatre exposes students to deep comprehension, a key ingredient for reading success, and creates active learners. In this text, students can easily read the main character part. His words come in everyday language. The language of the Alien, Grakker, is high-level.
Alien Ate My Homework is one of my favorite texts to aid student growth.
Students will discover that making mistakes is okay and acquire language that turns errors into positive learning experiences.
